Barren land cultivation

SKDRDP facilitates cultivation of barren private lands belonging to its stakeholders. Un-irrigable dry lands like hilly areas are cultivated with rubber and cashew plantation crops. Special attention is given in these farms to different methods of soil and water conservation such as terracing, bunding etc.,

Highlights as on 31st  May 2010

·         Farmers have been provided with 11,00,814 areca nut saplings, 4,61,897 coconut saplings, 4,82,676 cashew nut saplings and 20,01,256 rubber saplings.

·         Construction of irrigation tanks in 49,560 plots and purchase of 24,750 pump sets, resulting in irrigation of 75,000 acres of land.

·         More than 1,43,750 acres of agricultural land is aided in constructing border trenches and fences to protect the field from wild animals.

·         More than 1,63,060 acres of barren land is converted and developed as cashew nut and rubber gardens.

·         As a result more than eighteen thousand families increase their income considerably.

The SKDRDP coordinates with various line departments like horticulture, agriculture, forest etc., in equitable distribution of seed materials and other facilities provided by them to the deserving farmers.

The research stations and line departments also provide the necessary Support .
