GLIMPSES OF KISSAN MELA - 2010

' Krishimela' is a major annual event and a platform to share and exchange ideas for farmers from different parts of the state. It is a forum to acquire skill, technology and update oneself with the latest developments in the field of agriculture. Kissan Mela is an opportunity for the farmers to interact with progressive farmers, specialists, agriculture scientists and equip themselves with additional information. Beside farmers, manufacturers of agriculture equipments, fertilizers, pesticides, seed and seedling dealers, nurseries, banks and financial institutions, Government departments participate in this mega event. The Mela inspires confidence among the farmers. Rural artisans have their own space to display their skills and sell products.

 

In the year 2010, 'Kissan Mela or 'Krishi Mela' was organised at Kadur, Chikamagalur district.

During this thirtieth Krishi Mela, seminars, discussions were conducted on various agro based subjects. The topics were, Water and soil conservation, significance of mixed cropping, women on path to success, role of SHGs in development and significance of dry land agriculture, micro-finance programme, interview with administrators, political leaders,etc.

Dignitaries from various departments were a part of the mela as resource persons. The crowd puller was the exhibition cum sale stalls, people were happy to gather various valuable informations here and shopped as well. Motion pictures on health and sanitation, nutrition, rural development etc. were shown continuously. The folk artistes had an opportunity to exhibit their talents of the mela and also the handicrafts received the much needed attention. Rural agricultural families benefited largely from this. The cultural segment had its share with cultural programmes varying from yakshagana, dances organised in the evenings. Cattle show attracted more than 400 animals. Various breeds were exhibited and the finest was honored with award. There were around 400 stalls and the mela witnessed 3,00,000 visitors approximately.
