Power
generation plants in the industrial sector like the thermal power,
nuclear power and mega hydel plants have affected the environment
resulting in the destruction of the natural flora and fauna. It is also
difficult to provide the necessary electricity and energy to the vast
rural areas. In fact India
is facing shortage of electricity and new connections are rarely taken
up. However, our country is endowed with non depleting sources of energy
in the form of bright sun light, huge quantities of cow dung, mini
streams etc., which act as sources of non conventional energy.
In order to reduce the strain on formal electric
supply system and to produce electricity at the doorstep of the user,
SKDRDP has facilitated various non conventional energy sources to be used
in its project area
Many innovative activities like installation of
solar home lighting systems, solar driers, gobar gas plants (Bio gas plants)
are attempted by SKDRDP. These programmes are conducted in a sustainable
manner by motivating the stakeholder to make the necessary investments
for installation of the unit. The technology and material support are
accessed from the private sector. The stakeholders are also encouraged to
apply for the Government subsidies wherever available.
Normally, training is arranged in the villages on
the usefulness of the systems of renewable energy. Thereafter interested
beneficiaries are identified and followed up for installation of the
units.
Non-conventional energy :
·
Installation of solar lights to the un-electrified houses.
·
Promote gobar gas plants.
·
Improve living conditions by using indigenously available sources.
·
Gobar Gas – 8,710 families benefited
·
Conservation of energy PICO hydro electric project -32
tribal families benefited
·
Solar home lighting system – 5,736 families (four
light systems)
