SIRI a unique brand of consumer goods produced and marketed by rural women of Coastal Karnataka. Sri Kshethra Dharmasthala Rural Development Project (R.) (SKDRDP), A NGO from Dharmasthala, Karnataka. The project SIRI blends the traditional favours of Coastal Karnataka with modern production skills. SIRI is the realization of Mahathma Gandhi’s dream of Gram Swaraj where in the products from one village are consumed by those in other villages. SIRI is the culmination of the joint efforts of Dharmasthala temple, Government of India, Government of Karnataka and DK Zilla Panchayath under the dynamic leadership of Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade, Dharmadhikari Dharmasthala to empower the rural women with skills, infrastructure and hand holding support to produce and market quality consumer products. Working from 500 villages of Coastal Karnataka, more then 5000 rural poor women are engaged in producing almost 50 different products.
SIRI is providing the much needed backward and forward linkages for rural women for taking up various farm and non farm income generation activities. Registered under Section (25) of Companies Act , SIRI is a non profit distributing organization. Having its head office at Belthangady, SIRI provides the following to the rural women:
- Identification of unemployed rural women’s.
- Motivation for taking individual and group enterprises.
- Providing entrepreneurial and technical inputs to the groups.
- Facilitating to avail financial assistance to start the enterprise.
- Assisting in purchase of machineries, construction of work sheds, etc.
- Appointment of Unit Coordinators to maintain quality of the products.
- Locating the raw material suppliers buy in bulk and supply to groups.
- Provide marketing assistance and promote network.
- Develop a common brand like SIRI.
- Advertising sales promotion.
- The Project has made many arrangements for marketing the products like :
- Appointment of Sales Executives
- Appoint Marketing consultants for extensive marketing network.
- Installing SIRI shops at villages, Taluk head quarters and major cities.
- Identification of dealers at cities and towns.
- Door to door sales agents.
- Line sales through vehicles.
- Advertisement and publicity through various channels.
Achievements :
- More than 5000 rural women are initiated into income generation activities.
- Approximately 500 members engaged in marketing
- 100 staff members working in SIRI
- Through the brand name “SIRI” the products of rural women are marketed all over Karnataka and other areas.
- Three units have received AWAKE award for best women entrepreneurs.
